Rhythm on the Rails is a free, six-week outdoor concert series in downtown Shakopee. Held on Wednesday evenings in June and July, each show features a local opening act, regional headliner, kid-friendly activities, and local food and drink vendors.
The Great Midwest Rib Fest at Mystic Lake not only offers free admission, there are free outdoor concerts each day of the festival. This year’s headliners are Old Crow Medicine Show (June 25), Gabby Barrett (June 26), and Cheap Trick (June 27).
Rock and Rockets at Mystic Lake is a free, family-friendly Fourth of July celebration under the stars with live music, a fantastic fireworks show, and local food trucks.
The Landing gives visitors the chance to wander through Minnesota history and take in scenic views of the Minnesota River. Admission to the park grounds and trails is free, with 1800s historic buildings including a fur post, farmsteads, homes, and businesses.
Budget-friendly deals
Canterbury Park’s $2 Thursdays feature live horse racing, a DJ between races, and great discounts. General admission is only $2, with concessions specials including $2 Budweiser cans, $2 Pepsi products, and $2 hot dogs.
SandVenture Aquatic Park offers a twilight admission discount after 5:00 p.m., with residents saving $3 and non-residents saving $4 per admission. You’ll have until 7:00 p.m. to enjoy the waterslides, pirate ship, splash pad-style water features, and more.
The Minnesota Renaissance Festival offers a $5 discount for adults and seniors and a $4 discount for children on advance tickets through June 15. Shoppers can save big by visiting on Festival Friday (October 2). Each $30 Lords and Ladies shopping day ticket includes admission, a mini bottle of wine, curated gift bag filled with goodies, raffle entry, and discounts from selection artisans throughout the festival.
If you’re attending a concert at the Mystic Lake Amphitheater, you can park at Mystic Lake and take a complimentary shuttle to the show.
O’Brien’s Public House has daily specials including $5 tacos and margaritas on Tuesdays and an all-you-can-eat fish fry on Fridays. There’s also a happy hour Sunday through Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with discounted appetizers, flatbreads, and drinks.
Boardwalk Kitchen & Bar offers a weekday happy hour from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. with discounts on appetizers, $5 rail drinks and house wines, $2 off taps, and $8 select cocktails.
