Get Active in Shakopee This Winter

The temperatures might be chilly, but there are plenty of ways to stay active in Shakopee during the winter months.  From indoor sports to experiencing the great outdoors, here’s how you can boost your heart rate and have fun, too.

Drop Shot Pickleball has eight climate-controlled indoor pickleball courts, with options for individual open play, leagues, or reserving a court to play with your friends.  Paddles and balls are available for rent, plus you can rent a ball machine to practice your skills solo.  Other amenities include a social space for relaxing post-game, private showers, and snacks and beverages available for purchase.

The Golf Garage is the ideal spot for practicing your swing in the off-season.  The 4K immersive golf simulators let you choose from over 500 courses around the world for range play, stroke play, and more.  The simulator technology is suited to both right and left handed players, and groups of various abilities can play together by choosing different tee boxes for each player.  Rental clubs are available or you can bring your own.  After your game, stop by the in-house restaurant and bar for housemade pizzas, burgers, wings, and beverages like beer, wine, and craft sodas.

At the Indoor Aquatic Center, rack up some laps in the four-lane lap pool.   Lap swim times are available daily, and the aquatic center also offers water aerobics classes and swimming lessons.  After your workout, relax in the sauna or whirlpool.

The Shakopee Ice Arena offers open skating year-round, with skate rentals available.  Weather permitting, Shakopee maintains four outdoor ice rinks through the end of February.  The rinks at Green Meadows Park, Westminster Park, and Southbridge Community Park have warming houses, and there’s an additional rink at Lions Park without a warming house.  All rinks have lights.

Shakopee is home to 1,100 acres of parks and 100 miles of trails, offering plenty of space for hiking, fat-tire biking, and snowshoeing.  Shakopee is also conveniently located to regional parks including Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve, Clearly Lake Regional Park, and Spring Lake Regional Park, which have trails for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing.

The Landing’s hiking trails boast beautiful views of the Minnesota River as well as the chance to get up close to historic buildings representing 19th-century Minnesota.  Weather permitting, the park is also a great spot for snowshoeing.

At the Minnesota Valley State Recreation Area, visitors can explore a diverse landscape of wetlands, floodplain forests, and blufftop oak savanna.  The area is home to wildlife including racoons, deer, fox, and a wide variety of birds—see what you can spot during a hike or from a pair of cross country skis or snowshoes.
