Shakopee Itinerary: Romantic Couple’s Getaway

In the mood for a romantic couple’s getaway?  Check out Shakopee for a weekend full of fun activities, delicious eats, and nightlife with your special someone.

Friday

Kick off your couple’s getaway by unwinding with a craft beer at one of Shakopee’s taprooms.  Shakopee Brewhall is located in the heart of Shakopee’s historic downtown and has a warm feel, with exposed brick walls and wood floors, plus a diverse, approachable tap list.  Mana Brewing is also downtown, with a menu of cocktails and stone-fired pizza in addition to beers.  Badger Hill Brewing serves creative beers with a wide range of styles—the Badger Snack Peanut Butter Stout is a local favorite.

Next, try your luck at Mystic Lake.  The casino has gaming options including slots, blackjack, and electronic table games.  On Friday and Saturday, check out Cosmic Bingo, which features music, black lights, and a party-style atmosphere.  Finish your evening at Mystic Lake’s Drinx Bar, which hosts free live music on the weekends.

Saturday

Start the day with some shopping at downtown Shakopee’s local retailers.  Browse through the selection of new and vintage music at Ramble on Records and peruse the jewelry at Real Gem Jewelers.  Refuel with freshly-made donuts from Bittner’s Bakery and espresso drinks from Shakopee Brewhall, which transforms into a coffee shop during the morning hours.

Romance and bubbly go hand in hand, especially with a wine tasting at Mousse Sparkling Wine Co.  The winery specializes in dry and sweet sparkling wines made from Minnesota-grown grapes and also produces cider and still wines.  Pair your bubbles with a cheese or charcuterie board and dessert from the tasting room’s food menu, or bring your own snacks.

Explore the great outdoors with your sweetheart at the Minnesota Valley Wildlife Refuge, where you can hike in the warmer months and snowshoe or cross country ski throughout the winter.  The Minnesota Valley State Trail runs through the park and offers scenic views of the Minnesota River.  Another nearby spot to get outside is the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, which has trails that are open year round, plus seasonal gardens and indoor flower shows.

Celebrate the glamor of a bygone time with an evening out at Shakopee House, which evokes the elegant supper clubs of the Prohibition era.  Sip a classic cocktail, feast on the rock salt prime rib, and take in some live jazz or a cabaret performance.  For a more intimate experience, check out Rum Row Tiki Bar, the basement speakeasy, for a tropical atmosphere and beach-inspired craft cocktails.

Sunday

Sleep in and wrap up your couple’s getaway with a relaxing brunch at Mallards.  Pick from a lineup of seafood and Cajun-inspired dishes like lobster rolls and jambalaya, or try one of the brunch specials, like brandy French toast and lobster quiche.  Toast the end of your romantic weekend with bottomless mimosas.
