Chanhassen Dinner Theatres (CDT) came to be in 1968. It was the vision of founders Herb and Carol Bloomberg to bring a “little bit of Broadway to the Midwest.” They loved traveling to New York to enjoy great Broadway productions and felt audiences deserved a quality musical theatre experience here in the Twin Cities. They acquired land in Chanhassen, Minnesota, a tiny rural community with a population of less than 500 people. The 90,000 square foot dinner theatre was built on what was then cornfields and countryside.

Following their dreams, the Bloombergs took a big risk not knowing what would happen. They were strongly committed to establishing CDT as an Actors’ Equity theatre company with live orchestra – all fully professional. They were equally committed to providing a traditional sit-down dining experience. Those commitments to quality, carried on to this day, are major contributors to CDT’s success. Today we are the largest professional dinner theatre complex in the nation, the largest privately-owned restaurant in Minnesota, and we are proud to have served over 12.5 million guests in our fifty year history.

Our theatrical staff, led by Resident Artistic Director Michael Brindisi, is comprised of world-class actors, musicians, design teams and crews. CDT is a producing theatre company where all productions are concepted and designed by our artistic teams and made on-site in our creative shops – making our product 100% Minnesota-made.

Behind the onstage magic there is offstage magic happening everywhere in our building. A staff of 300 people come together to make everything happen to serve our valued guests. We manage every last detail to create the truly unique “Chanhassen Experience.”

In 2010, Chanhassen Dinner Theatres was entrusted to a dedicated new ownership group led by Michael Brindisi, Tamara Kangas Erickson and Steven L. Peters, who shared a passion for the theatre business, and who also had a genuine devotion to this legacy organization.

It was at that time that Chanhassen Dinner Theatres expanded its entertainment scope beyond the musical theatre for which it was known. We added a comedy club, a concert series, special presentations, and an enhanced wedding and events business. We also added the locally popular Brindisi’s Pub.  Our entertainment venue has something for everyone.

At its core Chanhassen Dinner Theatres is about Entertaining YOU! So whether you are coming with a group, celebrating a birthday or anniversary, having a date night or enjoying an evening with good friends, It’s the place where generation after generation comes to make lasting memories. And that’s our proudest accomplishment.
