Dry January Sips in Shakopee
Starting your new year with Dry January? Skipping alcohol doesn’t mean you need to miss out—Shakopee’s breweries and restaurants offer delicious non-alcoholic options, from spirit-free craft cocktails to locally crafted n/a brews.
Breweries
Badger Hill Brewing’s tap list includes Steer Beer, a non-alcoholic lager fermented with a special hybrid yeast, as well as craft root beer from Lift Bridge Brewery. Additional non-alcoholic taps rotate throughout the year, so check the brewery’s website for the most up-to-date information. All of the brewery’s cocktails can be prepared as mocktails, and other alcohol-free options include an n/a michelada, kombucha, craft lemonade, and slushies. There’s also a full menu of coffee and tea drinks, including matcha lattes and specialty espresso drinks with housemade syrups.
Mana Brewing stocks canned non-alcoholic brews from Athletic Brewing Co., but that’s just the beginning. Several flavors of kombucha from Brainerd, Minnesota-based Ya Sure Kombucha are also on offer. Build your own mocktail with your choice of Seedlip brand distilled, non-alcoholic spirits—the herbal Garden 108 is great with tonic, and Spice pairs well with ginger ale or cola. For something sweeter, try one of the specialty “durty popz” made by mixing pop with creamer, fruit syrup, and other mix-ins. For example, the Loop T Loop is a Sprite, watermelon, peach, and strawberry combo, while the Durty Dr. pairs Dr. Pepper with vanilla creamer.
Shakopee Brewhall serves a variety of non-alcoholic beers, including a sour berry, double IPA, tropical IPA, and Oktoberfest. They also have a menu of coffee, tea, and espresso drinks, including seasonal cold brew flights and Vietnamese coffee. Build your own custom dirty soda with a choice of soda, flavor, and milk/cream—recommended combos include Sprite, coconut, and coconut milk or orange soda with vanilla and half and half.
Restaurants
Boardwalk Kitchen & Bar has a dedicated zero-proof cocktail menu with several options. Warm up with The Gentleman’s Remedy, a concoction of ginger, lemon, honey syrup, and chamomile bitters served hot. The St. Agrestis Phony Negroni has effervescent, floral citrus notes. In addition to zero-proof cocktails, Boardwalk also serves non-alcoholic beer and specialty sodas.
Dangerfield’s can whip up mocktail versions of many of their signature cocktails, including the Harvest Mule, Vanilla Cold Brew Martini, and Patio Punch.
Mr. Pig Smokery specializes in craft cocktails, including spirit-free drinks. The N/A Smoked Cherry Old Fashioned is made with Spiritless brand distilled non-alcoholic bourbon, cherry juice, and smoked ice.
