Badger Hill Brewery: Shakopee’s Must-Visit Brewery

Nestled between Valleyfair and Canterbury Park, sound familiar? It’s Shakopee’s brewery- Badger Hill Brewing Company! We’ve called Shakopee our home since mid-2014 and officially opened our taproom and brewery here in December 2014. Prior to being in Shakopee we were in Minnetonka sharing a space with Lucid Brewing Company through an alternating proprietorship. Once we out grew that space we looked at various locations but knew for certain Shakopee is where we should be. We are a mile away from Valleyfair and Canterbury Park and the perfect stop on your way to bet on a pony or enjoy a ride on a rollercoaster.

Wondering where we got our name? Well, it is not related to Wisconsin! The old English translation of two of our owner’s name is Badger and Hill, thus the name was born. Badger Hill is owned and was started as a family business by Britt, Broc and Brent Krekelberg. We later added our fourth owner Michael Koppleman as our Head Brewer in 2014. Currently we have 9 full time employees and an awesome part-time staff of Beertenders and Ambassadors. The brewery itself has a 20 barrel brewhouse, four 60 barrel fermenters and a canning line. We pride ourselves on brewing high-quality, solid, approachable beers. We’ve been putting product in to the market in cans and on taplines in and around the Twin Cities, up in Duluth and St. Cloud and down in Rochester and Mankato.

With 12 rotating taplines and of course Giant Jenga, our taproom has become the place to be. It is open Tuesday through Sunday and hosts Food Trucks each week, check out the rotation of trucks here. Looking for a space to rent for your next event? We do rent out our space for a unique and fun time. Every Saturday at 2p we give tours of our brewery so you can get a behind the scenes glimpse in to a production brewery and how we produce our award-winning beers. If you love to try them all and can’t make your mind up be sure to get a flight- you’ll get four beers that you get to choose! Once you pick your favorite you can take home a fresh growler (yes, even on Sunday!) to enjoy at home.

You’ll want to keep an eye on our social media outlets as well as our events page. We are constantly hosting fun events at the taproom including Trivia, Flight Club and educational classes. This summer you can even join our Wednesday night Cornhole League at the taproom! Out and about you’ll find us sampling at liquor stores, pouring our brews at festivals and talking about food and beer at beer dinners around the area.
